Dog competition

The three-day dog competition ends on Sunday

GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – The Mississippi Gulf Coast Kennel Club held its second annual Bark’n Good Times at the Harrison County Fairgrounds.

The three-day event ended on Sunday.

“It’s more about raising awareness to show people that you can do things with your dog,” said club president Charles Stewart.

For the 100-yard dash, or “fast cat” event, he said the dogs averaged between 20 and 32 miles per hour.

“It’s fun to watch, even if you’re not racing,” Stewart said. “We had a great turnout. The public certainly supported him.

Dog owners Patricia Alexander and Jennifer Kurts traveled from Louisiana to participate.

“Dogs love it. It’s great for the family,” Alexander said.

“It’s because you can let your kids catch at the end, and everyone can get involved, and the dogs are having a great time,” Kurts said.

According to Stewart, about 100 dogs competed each day.

The competition was the first of two events the Kennel Club will host this year.

The second is the 11th annual Biloxi Beach Classic dog show, and it will be held Nov. 4-6 at the Harrison County Fairgrounds.
