Pooch Perfect – the dog grooming series starring Sheridan Smith – is sadly no more.
The BBC has confirmed that the series has been deleted after just one series.
Featuring up-and-coming dog groomers and a host of furry friends, Pooch Perfect pits pet lovers against each other to impress the judges.
Sheridan – alongside his furry friend Stanley – acted as host.
“Pooch Perfect has brought a lot of light relief to viewers during the lockdown,” the BBC statement read.
“Although the show is not returning, we would like to thank Sheridan, the judges, animal experts, groomers and pet owners, and Beyond Productions for bringing such joy when we needed it most.”

Why is it cancelled?
While the show’s January 2021 launch was a success, ratings plummeted over the course of the show.
He’s not coming back for more episodes.
As the series was celebrated by fans, the BBC was forced to defend it over fears for the dogs’ safety.

In one episode, the challenge involved dyeing brightly colored fur for a “transformation”. This raised concerns that the dog was under undue stress.
On top of that, others worry that the show is encouraging people to view their pets as “props.”
“During the production process, producers consulted with both the RSPCA and the British Veterinary Association (BVA) to ensure best practice in animal welfare,” the BBC said.

“Both organizations received details of the proposed grooming challenges and both were happy to recommend individuals who went on to become part of the production team.
“The Animal Welfare Consultant is himself a former RSPCA officer and was recommended by Dr Samantha Gaines of the RSPCA and our on-screen vet was suggested by Daniella Dos Santos, Senior Vice President of the BVA.”
