Parkmall opens week-long Pet Festival

MallCebu’s first pet-friendly mall, once again hosts the most diverse and largest gathering of pets, pet lovers and enthusiasts, and industry players after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This year’s Pet Festival Philippines 2022, themed “Welcome to the New World”, will bring together various pets for a week-long competition and exhibition of various products and services scheduled for May 16-22, 2022.

Various pet clubs, leading pet stores and animal welfare groups also join the event, making it the largest and most diverse gathering of its kind in the country.

Parkmall CEO and Managing Director Neal Carlson Co led the opening ceremony of the week-long festival on Monday morning May 16.

He was joined by Parkmall Deputy General Manager Melinda Co-Chua, Arch. Yael Aileen Sacris-Torrejos and Annalyn Aizpuro, President of the Island Rescue Organization (IRO), at the event’s inauguration ceremony.

Co, in his speech at the opening ceremony, emphasized the importance of responsible pet ownership.

A pet expo and exciting exhibits from pet renters, local pet stores, pet brands and pet clubs await shoppers and onlookers at the mall from May 16 to May 22.

“It’s been a long pandemic, endless quarantine status, but there was a way through it all. It was a connection with our family and with our pets,” he said.

“But the ecstatic return to having a pet isn’t just fun. Owning a pet is a responsibility and a commitment, and its real test only gets heavier when businesses open and people come to the office,” he added.

Rhiza Elanor Jumao-as, Mandaue city veterinarian and chief rabies vaccinator, said the week-long activity is a reminder that pets, whether large or small, are part of our lives.

The Mandaue City Veterinary Office, she said, will continue to support animal health and welfare promotion activities.

In a brief speech, Dr. Verna Agriam, Regional Animal Welfare Officer for the Department of Agriculture Central Visayas (DA-7), said that Parkmall, so far, is the only mall in Cebu to fully comply with its animal welfare regulations.

Meanwhile, a Pet Blessing, a sacred gesture for pets to have good health and a happy life, is scheduled for Saturday morning, May 21.

This will be followed by the Parade of Pets, Pet Talks (an interactive workshop and forum on home medical care for pets and how to assemble a pet emergency kit), and an orientation to the Pawsitive Academy in the afternoon.

Pawsitive Academy is a seven week workshop where any breed of dog will go through obedience training.

To cap off the week-long celebration on Sunday, May 22, Parkmall is bringing back “Pawshionista” or the dog track competition. This year’s theme is “Pet Gala: New World Pawshionistas”.

The non-profit organization IRO which rescues and rehabilitates ‘aspins’ and ‘puspins’ before offering them up for adoption every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month as part of Parkmall’s regular walk, will benefit from the ‘event.

IRO has partnered with Parkmall for all mall pet related events.
