I Entered My Dog In A Cutest Pet Photo Contest, But He Was Disqualified For A Heartbreaking Reason

A DOG owner’s winning entry in a cutest pet contest has been disqualified – because his beloved dog died.

Jill Tubbs came into a Bounty chocolate Labrador snap sitting on a flower pot when she was nine weeks old.

When told the photo was voted first, she said it was taken 11 years ago and Bounty died in January.

The local newspaper running the competition then took the prize from a dog bed – which Jill was donating – and awarded it to the runner-up, a spaniel called Charlie.

Jill, from Melksham, Wilts, said: ‘The competition asked for the cutest dog photo and we sent it.

“He didn’t say he had to be current or the dog had to be alive.”

Jill and her husband Steve, both in their 60s and owners of a pet nutrition store, want the Melksham News to ‘acknowledge’ that Bounty has won.

Jill said: “I just got an email and when the announcement was made they said the other dog had won. But he hadn’t – Bounty had won.

The newspaper said: ‘Bounty was not eligible as we were informed by his owners that he sadly passed away before he was entered.

“As a result, we presented the award to Charlie. We released a statement at the time apologizing for any upset this may have caused.
