Central Maine BBQ Contest this weekend in Skowhegan

The Skowhegan Area Regional Chamber of Commerce presents its second annual BBQ Cooking Contest in central Maine.

The event takes place this weekend at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds on Constitution Avenue.

Saturday from 7 a.m. to after 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This event is a competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and the Steak Cookoff Association. They organize events all over North America,

Competitors and judges travel all over the place for these events to be judged on their secret sauces and rub on the chicken, ribs, steak and pork categories.

This year, there will be an audience award. Locals can buy tickets to taste and rate entries on Saturdays between 1 and 2 p.m.

Also on Saturday, the kids will have a hot dog grilling contest. Imagine how life-changing could be if your kid was an award-winning grill. Relax mom and dad. Junior will have a ready-to-go lunch in a moment.

While there are pros who travel the country to participate in these types of events, also be aware that there are local pros who are Mainers and will participate as well. Let’s encourage them.

Due to competition rules, event food cannot be sold, but with that smoke and aroma wafting through the air, don’t worry, there are food trucks and vendors ready to feed you when you want it.

If the family wants a break from the competition, there’s a petting zoo, bouncy house, and other games, plus live music.

Chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder, beef brisket, it’s all there.
