The new season is off to a good start at Budleigh Salterton Bowls Club and already a great result in the Devon Over 60’s Division Two competition.
The Budleigh side traveled to local rivals Feniton and produced excellent bowls to win the match 41-23. It was a standout performance from the Budleigh Men, many of whom are new to the Over-60 League, securing the eight points on offer.
Brian Membury skipped his rink, with No.2 Terry Flynn and Peter Foreman in the lead, and took a solid 20:8 win. Terry Flynn played an exceptional first match for the Club.
Andrew Cardy was jumping the other rink, with No. 2 Norman Upchurch and Andy Skudder leading. This match was a real dogfight and after 15 ends the score was 15-15. Andrew Cardy then produced the necessary shots to secure a 21-15 victory.
The season will be a real test for Budleigh with so many new players joining the squad to play in the league and a special thanks to Peter Foreman for organizing the squads.
Budleigh had a busy start to the outdoor season and on April 30 welcomed the Westlecot touring team. The scores were very close at halfway but Westlecot then regained their form and the result was a 126-86 victory for Westlecot.
Budleigh then hosted a mixed team from Belmont, who played well and won the game 69-51. Budleigh followed that match up with a trip to St. Thomas for a mixed game and was on the losing side again, with an 80-44 win at St Thomas.
The club plays many friendly matches against local clubs and touring teams. Anyone interested in trying the bowls should contact Tony Mackness, the captain (A[email protected]) or visit the Budleigh Bowls website.
